The Everyday Mug
Wheel-thrown in our London studio. Holds 350ml. Each piece unique, glazed in warm sand or terracotta.
Our Story
"Every bowl begins as a handful of earth. We think that's worth remembering."
— Maya Chen, Founder of Clayen
Clayen started in a small rented studio in East London. Maya had spent years working in product design, surrounded by mass-produced things, until she picked up a handful of clay and felt something shift.
What she discovered wasn't just a craft — it was a way of slowing down. Of making something imperfect, one-of-a-kind, and entirely real. She began throwing bowls at weekends. Then mugs for friends. Then, because she couldn't keep the joy to herself, she started teaching.
Today, Clayen is a home for everyone who believes the objects we eat from, drink from, and display in our homes should carry a story. We make ceramics by hand, we teach beginners with patience, and we nurture a community of people who find meaning in making.
What We Believe
No two pieces are alike. The slight wobble in a rim, the variation in glaze — these are the fingerprints of a human hand, and we celebrate every one.
You do not need talent or experience. You need curiosity and a willingness to get your hands dirty. Our workshops are designed for people who have never touched clay before.
A Clayen mug sitting on your kitchen shelf isn't just functional. It's a reminder that something beautiful came out of the earth, through someone's hands, into your daily life.
